Ceramics Shell Process Control Co-op

Job Title: Process Control Co-op (Process Control and Operations) – Aerospace Casting Facility

 

Job Location: Eastlake, Ohio

 

Job Summary:

 

The Process Control (Ceramics) Co-op position is an immersive role within our aerospace casting facility designed for students pursuing a degree in engineering or a related field. This role provides hands-on experience in both process control and operations, supporting the production of high-quality castings for the aerospace industry. Working alongside experienced professionals, the Co-op will contribute to the optimization of Ceramic processes, support day-to-day operations, and ensure adherence to quality standards.

 

Objectives:

 

  1. Enhance Process Control Knowledge: Gain an in-depth understanding of Ceramic processes, especially as they relate to aerospace industry standards. Apply statistical process control techniques to maintain and improve the quality and consistency of cast products.
  2. Operational Support and Efficiency: Assist in Ceramic operations by collaborating with teams to identify and resolve production challenges, thereby enhancing process efficiency and operational effectiveness.
  3. Quality and Safety Compliance: Ensure all processes adhere to quality and safety standards relevant to the aerospace casting industry, gaining exposure to regulatory requirements and quality control systems.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Process Control:
  • Assist in monitoring and optimizing casting processes, such as mold preparation, heating, pouring, and cooling.
  • Collect and analyze data on key process parameters, using statistical tools to track process trends and identify areas for improvement.
  • Support root cause analysis for any deviations or process failures, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Work closely with quality control teams to ensure castings meet dimensional, mechanical, and metallurgical specifications.
  • Operations Support:
  • Collaborate with production teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues in real-time, ensuring uninterrupted workflow within the Shell and Clean and Cap rooms.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of process improvements, aiming to increase productivity and reduce waste.
  • Participate in equipment maintenance and calibration activities to ensure reliable operation of casting equipment and machinery.
  • Assist in inventory management for raw materials and supplies, ensuring necessary materials are available for scheduled production.
  • Quality and Safety Compliance:
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety by adhering to all facility safety guidelines, conducting safety audits, and reporting any hazards.
  • Work with quality teams to perform in-process inspections and audits, verifying that Ceramic Shells meet internal and customer specifications.
  • Engage in continuous improvement activities, identifying potential risks, and proposing solutions to enhance workplace safety and product quality.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate documentation of process adjustments, quality checks, and operational observations to support traceability and continuous improvement.
  • Assist in preparing daily, weekly, and monthly reports on process control and production metrics for management review.
  • Present findings and improvement suggestions to the operations team and participate in cross-functional project meetings.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Currently enrolled in an engineering program (Mechanical, Materials, Industrial, or related field preferred).
  • Strong analytical skills and familiarity with statistical process control and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic Ceramic environment and adapt to changing operational demands.
  • Basic understanding of metallurgical principles, particularly as they relate to casting and Ceramic operations, is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration across teams.

By the end of the rotation, the Co-op will have:

This is a paid Co-op rotation position with potential for future opportunities within the company.
