Director of Resident Life

Director of Resident Life/Activities - Fairlawn Campus
 -Management/Salaried position with Great Benefits!

Great management opportunity in our facility in Fairlawn, OH! This facility is part of The Village of St. Edward, a non-profit organization, who has been in existence since 1964. We are seeking an individual who is Committed, Kind, Knowledgeable and Respectful to assume the Director of Resident Life/Activities position to be part of our Excellent Team! 
 
Position Summary
In accordance with the mission and values of The Village of St. Edward, the Director of Resident Life plans, organizes, directs and carries out a program of activities which cover spiritual development, recreation, diversion, intellectual/educational development for residents as an integral part of resident care in our Nursing Care, Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Independent Living areas.
 
Qualifications
  • High School graduate or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field, to include Recreational Therapy, preferred.
  • Activity Director Certified (ADC) through NCCAP, Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA)or Certified Therapeutic Recreation Therapist required
  • Certification in Activities required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in providing activity services to elderly.
  • (Preferred) minimum one year of experience in a supervisory position overseeing activities and programming.
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record required
  • Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP) required within 3 months of start date (company will pay for)
  • Certified feeding assistant required within 3 months of start date (company will train)
  • Able to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds independently and over 50 pounds with assistance. Possess the ability to bend, stoop and reach at different angles. Walk, stand and sit intermittently during the day.
  • Must work with residents, families and public on personal basis. 
  • Availability to work on weekends, evenings, and holidays. Ability to be flexible due to potential of unknowns and rapidly shifting priorities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and timely outcomes
  • Demonstrates evidence of leadership abilities and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective communication including verbal, written, and presentation to varied audiences
  • Knowledgeable of principles of growth and development for the entire life span with the ability to provide activities appropriate for the adult and geriatric residents.
  • Must have an understanding of the social, psychological and recreational needs of the aged as well as other types of residents in long-term care and must be able to plan and organize activities geared to these needs.
  • Specific knowledge of Word, Excel and email or the willingness to learn. Use a range of information technology applications to fulfill the requirements of the position, produce necessary reports accurately and timely, and/or improve the functionality of the department as a whole
  • Knowledge of Point Click Care (PCC) preferred

Essential Duties:
  • Develops and implements a full monthly activities calendar for campus.
  • Plans, organizes and supervises the operation and personnel in the Resident Life Department.
  • Maintains adequate records and documentation consistent with Federal and State guidelines.
  • Plans, organizes, directs and carries out a program of activities which will provide entertainment, social communication, exercise, relaxation, opportunity to express creative talent and fulfill basic psychological, social and spiritual needs which will be available to all residents as ordered by the resident’s physician, subject to his/her written restrictions and limitations.
  • Initiates and promotes activities both within The Village of St. Edward and outside in order to stimulate and promote resident interest and general being.
  • Acts as the main liaison staff person for residents concerning activities.
  • Plans and coordinates the recruitment of volunteers.
  • Maintains a record of residents’ activities.
  • Evaluates resident reactions during activities and reports unusual observations to the nurse.
  • Writes progress notes and charts them as often as required. Maintains resident files.
  • Prepares and submits reports as directed.
  • Documents in accordance with policies and procedures of The Village of St. Edward.
  • Promotes hobbies and provides materials and supplies in keeping with the resident’s financial status and department budget.
  • Promotes craft activities among residents in groups and individually in workrooms, recreational areas or in resident rooms. 
  • Provides craft materials and supplies, instructs and supervises residents during craft activities. 
  • Responsible for the safety of residents under his/her supervision.
  • Complies with safety regulations and policies.
  • Promotes social communication among residents through group activities and recreation.
  • Plans parties, provides games and encourages residents to assist in the planning, e.g. making table decorations, wrapping gifts, trimming party room or area, etc.
  • Schedules outside activities, movies, trips (shopping, scenic, other) and arranges for transportation and supervision.
  • Promotes participation in religious activities to fulfill their basic spiritual needs through visits with chaplain, attendance at religious services whenever possible, spiritual reading material and others.
  • Promotes intellectual/educational development through literature, lectures, movies, cultural events, etc.
  • Develops programs for special populations such as bed bound and Alzheimer’s residents.
  • Participates in resident care planning process.
  • Participates in special functions which promote The Village of St. Edward to employees, residents and community.
  • Knowledgeable of the status of nursing care and memory care residents.
  • Creates a monthly campus-wide newsletter.
  • Ensures one-on-one programming with residents and activities assistants takes place and is documented correctly.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.
