The role of a Human Resource Specialist is critical to that calling. A Human Resources Specialist is responsible for completing a variety of tasks to support the daily operations of the HR department. They are responsible for comparing HR laws to current policies and procedures, reviewing employee feedback, strategizing about HR programs to benefit workplace culture, and working with department heads to oversee the hiring and onboarding process. Human resource specialists maintain employee relations on behalf of telos, and work closely with operations personnel to ensure that they maintain organized employee files and HR records.

Reporting Relationship
The Human Resource Specialist reports to the Chief Administrative Officer.

Responsibilities
  • Use telos values to guide decision making, build relationships, solve problems and lead by example
  • Process employees’ queries and comments, accept feedback and apply it to create a more effective workplace
  • Regularly observe current employees and interview them to determine their satisfaction with their job
  • Provide a periodic overview of employee relations to the executive leadership team
  • Meet with employees and their Managers to discuss recent workplace incidents and determine a plan of action going forward
  • Take appropriate disciplinary action against employees who violate rules and regulations and address employee grievances
  • Administer health and life insurance programs
  • Inform employees about benefits they’re eligible for (vacation days, 401k, etc.)
  • Create a recruitment plan and calendar according to operation and sales projections
  • Ensure recruitment and hiring process runs smoothly
  • Create job posts for department heads based on their hiring needs and help hire the best employee for the job position
  • Conduct interviews of potential new employees (determine their skills, experience, and education)
  • Explain the duties, benefits, working conditions, and other job requirements that would be relevant to the applicant
  • Perform background checks and contact references of an applicant
  • File the resume of any other applicants particularly qualified for later positions
  • Update employee records with new hire information and/or changes in employment status
  • Create onboarding plans and educate newly hired employees on HR policies, internal procedures and regulations
  • Maintain organizational charts and detailed job descriptions along with salary records
  • Develop and implement HR policies throughout the organization
  • Stay up-to-date and comply with changes in labor legislation
  • Create, update and apply all HR policies and company guidelines in adherence to standards and laws in compliance with state, federal, and local regulations
  • Generate official internal documents such as offer letters, appointment letters, salary slips and warning letters
  • Maintain physical and digital files for employees and their documents, benefits and attendance records

Skills and Qualifications
  • BSc/MSc in Human Resources or relevant field
  • Solid understanding of labor legislation and payroll process
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal, written and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to self-manage
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong technical skills with demonstrated ability to learn multiple software systems and applications
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Google Workspace and project management tools
  • This is a virtual position. Because you will be handling confidential client information, you must work from your home office. You cannot work in a public location (like a coffee shop or the library).
