CONTENT MARKETING COORDINATOR

Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for creating and implementing approved content strategies to market the tourism experience in Newport News, Virginia to all audiences. This position develops and manages the entire content cycle, including procuring, writing, editing, distributing, managing, updating, and monitoring dynamic Newport News content. Reports to the Tourism Administrator. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Leads the development and implementation of high-quality creative content, ensuring information is engaging and accurate while encouraging residents and guests to experience Newport News. Manages the content, design, and usability of Newport News Tourism’s digital campaigns across multiple social media channels, the Division website, email communications, blogs, and other digital marketing channels. Develops a Tourism digital content plan and editorial calendar that aligns with strategic tourism and communications goals; ensures that the content remains consistent across all platforms; and manages the cross-posting of content on partner and third-party sites. Manages the Tourism Division website, updating content and images regularly; responds to inquiries in an engaging and respectful manner; develops innovative and fun social media campaigns to encourage public engagement. Engages with the Virginia Tourism Corporation and other industry partners, regularly submitting content and evaluating external campaigns for use in Newport News. Implements, analyzes, and optimizes digital advertising and marketing campaigns that are seasonal and topical; provides recommendations and places social media and digital advertisements to drive a variety of online marketing campaigns. Compiles and tracks web usage data related to digital advertising, marketing campaigns and digital marketing initiatives; prepares detailed statistical reports. Owns the “site experience” and conversion funnel, while leveraging consumer on-site behavior ad analytics to achieve tourism goals. Serves as lead for Tourism Search Engine Optimization (SEO); develops SEO strategy to improve organic traffic, conversion rates, domain authority, linking domains and rank. Conducts SEO content analysis using tools and best practices to implement effective SEO content optimizations, projects and strategies. Manages the tourism digital library, including photography, videos and other creative content; plans and implements film shoots and photo contests; ensures images maintain the city’s brand image and properly convey the tourism experience. Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE · Knowledge of the processes and equipment used in the design and preparation of multimedia graphics, brochures, and other visual aids. Knowledge of advertising and publicity techniques. General knowledge of the proper methods and techniques of researching, preparing, and disseminating public information. · Information Technology – Knowledge of office equipment and personal computers, content platforms, social media blogs, Google ads, Search Engine Optimization, web analytics and design/development, mobile campaigns, and a variety of presentation media and digital marketing. · Customer Service — Considerable knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service. This includes setting and meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. 

 

REQUIRED SKILLS · Computer Skills – Utilizes a personal computer with word processing, spreadsheet, database, graphic design, desk top publishing, photo editing programs and related software to effectively complete a variety of tasks with reasonable speed and accuracy. · Judgment/Decision Making — Evaluates the best method of research and then exercising appropriate judgment in establishing priorities and resolving complex matters. Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one. · Interpersonal Relationships – Develops and maintains cooperative and professional relationships with employees and all levels of management to include representatives from other departments and organizations.

 

REQUIRED ABILITIES · Communication – Excellent ability to communicate ideas and proposals effectively to diverse audiences to include preparing and presenting a wide variety of related community and public relation materials. Excellent ability to listen and understand information and ideas presented verbally and in writing. Ability to handle a variety of issues with tact and diplomacy and in a confidential manner. · Time Management – Ability to plan and organize daily work routine. Establishes priorities for the completion of work in accordance with sound time-management methodology to meet strict deadlines. 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Tourism, Business Administration or a related field and 3-5 years related marketing, development and research experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Acceptable general background check to include a state and local criminal history check and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS · Requires the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work. · Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). · Tasks may involve extended periods of time at keyboard or workstation.

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS · Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. · Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURES Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental condition.
