GBH News Morning Edition Internship – Fall 2024

At GBH, we believe in the advantages of coming together to build community, mentor and learn from colleagues, and connect more deeply with our mission. As a result, the majority of our staff are hybrid and work both from home and onsite. Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and one other day, to be determined by their business unit. Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Morning Edition is seeking a news conscious fall intern who is eager to get hands on experience producing a fast paced and well-informed live news broadcast. We start working to write and produce the day's news before most people wake up in the morning. Having a love of news gathering and a willingness to share your thoughts and ideas is necessary. You will work alongside hosts Paris and Jeremy and the Morning Edition team that works to bring hundreds of thousands of people the news on the radio, online and streaming on Twitch every morning. You will report to the show's production team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Being well informed on current news and events
- Assist in fact-checking numbers and details for on-air copy
- Assist in preparing and researching host interviews
- Pitch story ideas
- Writing copy on a short deadline to be used for broadcast
- Assist with web duties including transcribing interviews
- Assist in writing and assembling our 3x weekly newsletter
SKILL SET
- Gain hands-on experience in radio production
- Assist with daily show preparation and execution
- Learn about the operations of a live multi-platform broadcast
JOB STATUS
Paid Internship $17/hour (Part Time 20 hours)
INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
GBH internships provide students with valuable work experience and real-world knowledge across many different fields of study, from TV and radio production, to web design, accounting, law, and other administrative arenas.
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
- Internship dates: September 16th to December 6th.
- Candidates must have their own computer and access to Wifi.
- Candidates must be in an Undergrad or Grad program and have work authorization for the United States.
